LA Fitness Personal Training Cost

LA Fitness personal training costs are not published on their official website. However, I talked to multiple members to learn more about the training cost and also did more research.

I found that the personal trainer at LA Fitness charges $50 to $60 for a session that runs for about 25 minutes, and for a 50-minute session, they charge $75 to $100.

But the trainer’s actual cost is determined by the location of your club (expensive in New York), the experience of your personal trainer, and the session duration, so you can ask about it at your local club.

But in general, it is about $50 to $60 for 25 minutes and $75 to $100 for 50 minutes.

What LA Fitness Personal Training Costs

Sessions at LA Fitness run for 25 or 50 minutes, and single sessions are expensive, while packages are more affordable. Here’s the pricing:

Package type25-minute session50-minute session
Single session$50 to $60$75 to $100
Monthly (4 sessions)$200 to $250/month$320 to $400/month
Monthly (8 sessions)$350 to $450/month$500 to $700/month
Partner/duet training$30 to $50 per person$50 to $80 per person
Bulk bundle (10 to 20 sessions)$40 to $55 each$65 to $85 each

Single sessions are 30 to 50% more expensive than a packaged session; if you commit to 12 months, it’ll still beat 6-month pricing at most locations.

You’ll have to pay more in urban areas like California, New York, and Florida.

Midwest and Southern clubs tend to run 10 to 20% lower.

Signature Clubs charge above the standard club rates for the same session length.

Also, there’s a one-time enrollment fee of $50 to $150 when you first sign, and it gets bundled into the first month’s total. So one should ask what the first month’s total charge will be, not just the monthly rate.

What the Free Fitness Assessment Is For

Personal Trainer in the GYM

Every new member and prospective training client gets offered a complimentary fitness assessment.

A trainer runs you through a movement screen, takes body composition measurements, and discusses your goals, and after 30 to 60 minutes, they give you useful baseline information.

And it’s also part of their sales system, as they have to sell more memberships, add-ons, etc.

However, after the evaluation, the same trainer walks you through training package options and pricing.

You can simply thank them, or sign, or leave; that’s all up to you.

Three Things to Confirm Before You Sign a Personal Training Contract

Personal training at LA Fitness is a different second contract than your gym membership, and it has its own billing, commitment period, and cancellation rules. Here are 3 things you need to remember:

Session expiration policy:

Your unused sessions may expire at the end of each billing month rather than rolling over.

If you pay for 8 sessions in February and only use 5, those remaining 3 may disappear at March billing, and clubs handle this differently, so you’d want to confirm the rollover policy in your club.

Trainer change policy:

If your trainer leaves the club, the contract will stay active, and most agreements allow reassignment to another trainer rather than contract termination, even if the replacement doesn’t work for your schedule.

Early exit terms:

Some contracts allow you to exit after month 2 or 3 for 50% of the remaining balance.

But some also require a reason, like documented medical conditions or relocation, for any early exit.

The specific terms in your agreement control what’s available to you.

How to Cancel LA Fitness Personal Training

Personal Training by the coach

LA Fitness mentioned on its personal training section: “Training memberships cannot be canceled through this website.”

And the standard online gym membership cancellation form doesn’t apply here, so you have two ways to cancel now:

Cancel in Person with the Personal Training Director

Go to the club and ask for the Personal Training Director (front desk, trainer, and operations manager may not help you).

That’s because PT contracts fall under a separate management chain from gym memberships.

The Personal Training Director has the authority to process terminations and negotiate settlements on remaining balances.

Cancel via Written Notice

Your agreement specifies the required notice period (usually 30 days), the mailing address for written notice, and any documentation required for early exit.

So, you’ll want to follow the agreement terms exactly.

Grounds for Early Exit Without Penalty

Most states (California, Florida, Texas, etc.) recognize these as valid reasons to exit a training contract before the term ends. You just need to have documents ready before you make the request; here are the standard qualifying reasons:

  • Documented medical condition preventing exercise (requires a doctor’s note)
  • Relocation more than 25 miles from any LA Fitness location
  • Club closure affecting your home location
  • Military deployment

California and New York have specific health club laws that provide additional consumer protections beyond the standard contract terms.

If you’re in any of these states and facing a billing dispute over a PT contract, you can reference the relevant state statute in your conversation with the personal training director; it will produce a better outcome than arguing the club’s internal policies.

The California Health Studio Services Contract Law and New York General Business Law Section 394 are two helpful things for you.

What Moves the Price You Get Quoted

Senior personal trainers

Four things determine where in the range your quote lands, and you can ask about them rather than waiting to see what gets quoted.

Trainer tier: LA Fitness categorizes trainers by certification level, experience, and performance ratings. Senior trainers are 25 to 40% more expensive, so the trainer presented to you first may not be the only option at that club; you can ask for others too.

Location: A club in Beverly Hills will quote more than a suburban Ohio location, and ranges published online are averages, so your club’s pricing might be different too.

Package commitment length: Longer commitments produce lower per-session rates; a 12-month agreement beats a 6-month one, and both beat month-to-month.

Promotional timing: In January and September, LA Fitness pushes personal training hardest, and they also waive enrollment fees. But trainer availability also drops in January as new clients flood in.

Is LA Fitness Personal Training Worth It?

Cancel LA Fitness Personal Training

It depends on where you are in your fitness experience, and it also depends on the trainer quality, so here are a few things to consider when you should get a personal trainer or avoid one:

You are a beginner

If you want someone to teach fundamental movement patterns and build a program structure.

So, you can spend a few months with an experienced trainer and gain experience, build habits, etc., and you’ll get used to it.

Accountability drives your consistency

If you’re kind of a member who shows up reliably when your appointment is scheduled but skips when you’re self-directed, then you’ll get real value.

Besides this, you can also get a personal trainer when you’re returning after an injury and want a supervised progression back to full training capacity.

When you shouldn’t get a personal Trainer

A personal trainer makes less sense if you already know how to train and don’t want a spotter.

It also makes less sense if weight loss is your main goal without dietary changes alongside the training, because two sessions per week of exercise produce limited results regardless of trainer quality.

How to Check Trainer Quality at LA Fitness

Although LA Fitness requires a certification from a recognized body (NASM, ACE, NSCA, or ACSM) plus a current CPR/AED cert, it doesn’t require a degree in exercise science.

So, experience levels vary widely, and newer trainers work with experienced ones at the same price points at many clubs.

That’s why asking a trainer how long they’ve been practicing and what their specialization areas are during the assessment session will help you get a better trainer than just a package.

Cheaper Ways to Get Guided Training at LA Fitness

If you can’t get a one-on-one personal trainer because it’s costly, then I have two structured alternatives that you can get at LA Fitness, and both will deliver trainer involvement at some point.

Studio Group Training (HIIT by LAF)

It will cost only $125 per month for unlimited small-group sessions with a certified trainer.

But the trainer will program the workout and coach form across a group of 6 to 12 people rather than just you.

For members who want instruction and accountability without the one-on-one price, this is the best available option.

You can check my guide about LA Fitness HIIT Classes; there I’ve covered how it works and how to sign up.

Partner training

It splits a standard session cost between two people; you can train with your friend or partner, and it’ll cut the per-person cost by 40 to 50% compared to individual packages and still get you a trainer-directed session.

Standard group fitness classes on the regular schedule, including Boot Camp, Total Body Conditioning, and Kickbox Cardio, are included in every membership at no extra charge.

However, they won’t deliver structured, instructor-led workouts, which you can get with a personal trainer.

FAQs about Personal Training

How much does personal training cost at LA Fitness?

Personal training for a 50-minute, single session costs around $75 to $100.

Monthly packages of 4 sessions cost $320 to $400, and packages of 8 sessions cost $500 to $700.

Besides this, you have to pay a one-time enrollment fee that is between $50 and $150.

Plus, the price also depends on trainer experience, your location, and duration.

How much should you expect to pay for a personal trainer?

Gym-based personal training in the US averages $50 to $100 per session for 45 to 60 minutes.

Independent trainers in major metros charge $80 to $150 per session, and specialty trainers in sports performance or corrective exercise run higher.

Can I do personal training at LA Fitness without a gym membership?

No, you must have an active gym membership throughout the full duration of any personal training agreement.

You cannot hold a training contract without a membership, and dropping the membership won’t cancel the training contract.

Both agreements are separate, so ending one requires ending both.

How do I get out of an LA Fitness personal training contract?

You have to go in person and speak with the personal training director, or you can submit written notice per the terms in your agreement.

Valid grounds for penalty-free early exit include documented medical conditions, relocation more than 25 miles from any LA Fitness, military deployment, or club closure.

If you’re in California or New York, state health club laws give you additional rights beyond the contract terms.
