LA Fitness Amenities

I used to assume all LA Fitness amenities would be the same in all clubs because it is the same franchise, but that’s not true.

In almost every gym, there is workout equipment that we need, but things like a pool, sauna, basketball court, etc. aren’t available everywhere.

And that’s what I’ll discuss: what’s location-dependent, what you’ll have to pay extra for regardless of where you go, and more.

What Every LA Fitness Location Has

LA Fitness Amenities

These are the amenities you’ll find in every standard LA Fitness club across the country, regardless of location or your LA Fitness Plan:

Cardio equipment:

Cardio equipment available at LA Fitness, including treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, and rowing machines
  • Treadmills
  • Ellipticals
  • Stationary bikes
  • Stair climbers
  • Rowing machines.

Plus, most modern clubs have individual entertainment screens on cardio machines.

Weight and resistance training:

A full free weights area with dumbbells that start from 5 lbs up to 120 lbs at most locations:

  • Barbells
  • Flat incline benches
  • A range of cable machines
  • Plate-loaded equipment.

Functional training area:

  • kettlebells
  • TRX suspension trainers
  • Slam balls
  • Resistance bands
  • Battle ropes.

However, you won’t see too many gym members here, so if you like functional training, you’ll appreciate this less crowded space.

Group fitness classes:

All standard memberships include the full group fitness class schedule at no additional charge, and classes such as:

  • Yoga
  • Zumba
  • Cycling
  • HIIT
  • Body conditioning
  • Aqua Fit (where a pool exists), and more.

But the schedule varies by club, and you can see it in the LA Fitness app and website.

Locker rooms and showers: Standard at every location, and basic toiletry amenities such as soap and hand dryers are also provided.

LA Fitness Amenities That Vary by Location

LA Fitness amenities that vary by location, including a pool, sauna, whirlpool, basketball, racquetball, and volleyball courts

Although they’re common at many LA Fitness clubs, there’s no guarantee that you can find them at all; if they’re important to you, you can see in the LA Fitness App.

Swimming pool:

Where available, LA Fitness pools are Junior Olympic size; normally, they’re three lanes and maintained between 80°F and 84°F. They’re used for lap swimming and Aqua Fit classes.

You won’t find pools at every location, particularly in clubs with less people.

If you need them, check the specific club on the LA Fitness club finder, and for pool-specific hours and rules, see my post about LA Fitness Pool Hours.

Sauna and steam room:

Dry saunas are common at most locations, usually inside the locker rooms, and steam rooms are less consistent.

While some locations have both, others have only one or neither.

I’ve also covered more about it in my LA Fitness Sauna article, including its availability, location, and much more.

Whirlpool and Spa:

You can find hot tubs at many clubs, but they’re not universal, and Signature Clubs tend to have more reliable whirlpool access than standard locations.

Basketball courts:

Available at most but not all locations.

LA Fitness is one of the few gym chains at this price point to include full courts, which is a significant draw compared to chains like Planet Fitness or Crunch that don’t have them.

Racquetball courts:

Exist at many locations but are less common than basketball courts. Some clubs have converted racquetball space to other uses over the years.

Volleyball courts:

Available at select locations, but usually shares space with the basketball court configuration.

What Costs Extra Regardless of Plan

Group people Pilates exercise

These services aren’t included in any standard membership at any price tier, and most members find out about them after signing up rather than before:

Personal training:

They’re priced per session or in packages and will cost you $50 to $100 per session, depending on the trainer and location. Besides this, packages reduce the per-session cost.

You can read more about it in LA Fitness Personal Training Cost for current pricing and to learn more about it.

Pilates by LA Fitness and specialty studios:

The Glute Room, Pilates by LA Fitness, and Studio Group Training sessions are separate paid programs. They are not covered under standard membership dues regardless of which plan you hold.

Kids Klub childcare:

Available at select clubs for children ages 3 months to approximately 12 years.

It will cost $10 to $15 per month or $5 per drop-in visit, and it’s not included in any type of membership, including LA Fitness Family Membership.

Recovery services:

Some locations partner with third-party providers to offer services like HydroMassage and red light therapy, and they charge for this extra service.

But availability is club-specific and not part of standard membership.

Does LA Fitness Have Massage Beds?

In some locations, they have HydroMassage beds, which use water-pressure technology rather than hands-on massage.

But where available, these are a paid add-on through a third-party partnership, not a standard membership benefit.

Traditional massage therapy and massage beds are not part of LA Fitness’s standard amenity set.

Does LA Fitness Have Tanning Beds?

No, LA Fitness doesn’t have any tanning beds at any of its locations.

And this is confirmed by corporate policy and has been consistent across the chain.

If tanning is a priority for you, Planet Fitness includes tanning access with its Black Card membership.

Signature Clubs: What the Upgrade Gets You

Standard and Signature LA Fitness clubs compared by equipment, group fitness, locker rooms, and premium amenities

LA Fitness operates a subset of locations under the Signature Club designation, and they are premium facilities, which is why they’re different from standard clubs.

What Signature Clubs add over standard locations, though specifics vary by club:

  • Complimentary towel service
  • Upgraded and more spacious locker rooms with higher-quality showers and grooming stations
  • Larger pools, often heated, with more lanes
  • More consistent whirlpool and steam room access
  • Smoothie bars and juice stations
  • More spacious workout floors with less crowding during peak hours
  • Spa and recovery services that may include massage and other treatments at additional cost
  • Larger group fitness studios with more class variety

Signature Clubs are larger, around 55,000 square feet compared to the more 25,000 to 35,000 square foot footprint of a standard club.

To access a Signature Club, you’ll need at least a Multi Club membership.

A Single Club membership at a standard location doesn’t carry over to a nearby Signature Club.

You can use the LA Fitness club finder to see which locations in your area are designated Signature Clubs.

How to Check Amenities at a Specific Location

Four-step guide to checking LA Fitness amenities by using the club finder, selecting a location, viewing its amenities, and calling to confirm availability

LA Fitness lists amenities by club on their website, so you have to visit their official website, which is lafitness.com, open the club finder, search by zip code, and click on a specific location.

You’ll see the amenity list for that club and more details.

Before driving out, you can also call the club to confirm anything pool- or sauna-related, since renovation periods sometimes mean a listed amenity is temporarily out of service.

FAQs

What equipment does LA Fitness have?

Every LA Fitness has a full cardio floor with treadmills, ellipticals, bikes, and stair climbers; a complete free weights area with dumbbells up to around 120 lbs, barbells, benches, cable machines, and plate-loaded equipment; plus a functional training zone.

But specific equipment models and quantities vary by club size and renovation cycle.

Does LA Fitness have a pool at every location?

No, they’re common but not available in every LA Fitness gym.

Especially, you won’t find them in older or smaller footprint locations, so you should confirm via the club finder or a direct phone call.

Does LA Fitness include group fitness classes in the membership?

Yes, all standard memberships include the full group fitness class at no cost.

Just things like specialty studio sessions like Pilates by LA Fitness and studio group training are paid programs.

What’s the difference between a standard LA Fitness and a Signature Club?

Standard clubs cover the basics: equipment, cardio, classes, a pool where one exists, courts, and locker rooms.

On the other hand, Signature Clubs add complimentary towels, upgraded locker facilities, more consistent spa amenities, smoothie bars, larger workout floors, and a noticeably less crowded environment.

But the Signature Club access requires at minimum a Multi-Club membership.

Does LA Fitness have a sauna?

Many locations do, and it’s a dry sauna inside the locker room, but you won’t find it at every club, and steam rooms are even less consistent across the chain.

So, you want to check the specific location’s amenity list before joining.
