LA Fitness Pool Hours: Early Closing Times, Rules & Lane Availability

LA Fitness Pool Hours

LA Fitness pool hours are different from the regular gym; they close 30 to 60 minutes earlier than the main club.

Besides this, they have two scheduled activities, swim lessons and aqua fit classes, which block lane access during hours the pool is technically open.

So, if you want your workouts around the pool, it’s important to know about pool timing.

Gap Between Pool Hours and Gym Hours

LA Fitness Pool Hours vs. Gym Hours

Every day, the pool closes first, but how early exactly? It depends on your club, but it’s between 30 and 60 minutes.

On weekdays, a club is open until 11 PM and closes its pool around 10:00 to 10:30 PM.

On weekends, when most clubs close the main floor at 8 PM, the pool may stop admitting swimmers by 7:00 or 7:30 PM.

That’s because pool staff need time to test chemicals, clean lanes, and close the deck before the facility shuts down.

During holiday hours like Christmas Eve, July 4th, and New Year’s Eve, the pool often closes a full hour before the main club rather than the usual 30 to 60 minutes.

How to Find Your Specific Club’s Pool Hours

There’s no exact timing mentioned on the LA Fitness website about the pool-specific hours separately from the general club.

But here are two of the most reliable ways to get accurate timing:

  1. Call the club directly and ask what time the pool closes today and on weekends; they will give the most accurate answer and tell you the schedule.
  2. Check the LA Fitness app under Find a Club, select your location, and look for the amenities section. Some clubs include pool schedule notes there, and the LA Fitness app is better than Google Maps because the gym’s own information is frequently updated.

What Cuts Into Your Swim Time

Pool hours tell you when the water is available, but two recurring activities reduce the number of lanes you can use, and neither one shows up in the general club hours posted online.

British Swim School Sessions

British Swim School Sessions

Many LA Fitness locations host British Swim School, a third-party swim lesson provider for infants through early teens.

Lessons run multiple times per week, usually in the morning and early afternoon, and block one or more lanes during those windows.

However, these sessions aren’t listed on their main LA Fitness website or app, and the schedule is posted at the pool deck or available at the front desk.

So, if you want to swim in the morning, ask if your club is hosting British Swim School and, if so, during which hours. Because it’ll affect many lanes.

Aqua Fit Classes

Aqua Fit Classes

Aqua Fit is a 50-minute water fitness class included in standard membership.

Most pool-equipped clubs run several sessions throughout the day, with the heaviest schedule in the morning and some evening slots.

During an active Aqua Fit class, most or sometimes even all of the pool is in use for the class, so the lap swimmers either wait or check whether a partial lane is available.

You can see the exact group fitness schedule in the LA Fitness app or on the club’s posted schedule board; they show when Aqua Fit runs at your location.

Pool Size and How Far You’re Swimming

Pool Size at LA Fitness

Standard LA Fitness pools are 25 yards long with three lap lanes, and water temperature is maintained between 80°F and 85°F year-round.

Specifications Measurement
Length25 yards (75 feet)
Lanes3 lap lanes
Shallow end3.5 to 4.5 feet
Deep end4.5 to 6+ feet
Temperature80 to 85°F, heated year-round

In a 25-yard pool, one lap is one length, and swimming a mile requires 70 to 71 laps; it means 18 laps equals a quarter mile and 35 laps equals a half mile.

However, some small, older, or differently configured locations have pools closer to 25 meters rather than 25 yards; the gym staff can tell you more accurately about your gym.

Saltwater vs. Chlorine: It Depends on the Club

LA Fitness Saltwater Pool vs Chlorine Pool

In most LA Fitness pools, you’ll find standard chlorine systems, and some locations have switched to saltwater chlorination, which produces chlorine through a salt-electrolysis process rather than direct chemical dosing.

Saltwater pools feel softer on skin and eyes, and they carry less of the chlorine smell, which is just too common at heavily treated pools.

Pool Rules

LA Fitness Pool Rules

Rules are posted at the pool entrance at every club, but the following apply across all LA Fitness locations:

  • Shower before entering the pool
  • Athletic swimwear only (no cotton shorts, gym clothes, or underwear used as swimwear)
  • No running on the pool deck
  • No diving in the shallow end
  • No glass containers near the pool
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Respect lane assignments and circle-swim etiquette during busy periods

Swim caps aren’t required but are still recommended if you have longer hair, and kickboards and pull buoys are available at the pool deck for members; you can use them at no charge.

Is It Safe to Swim in an LA Fitness Pool?

Yes, because LA Fitness pools are subject to state and local health department inspection requirements, the same as any commercial pool, and chemical levels, pH, and filtration are checked daily by staff.

But whether your club is maintaining these standards consistently depends on your club’s management, and to see that, you can check reviews on Google or Yelp.

If a pool looks visibly cloudy, smells strongly of ammonia (so it signals improper chlorine chemistry rather than cleanliness), or has visibly dirty tile lines.

A properly maintained pool should be clear enough to see the bottom clearly in the deep end; you can also see the CDC’s healthy swimming guidelines to understand what to look for as a swimmer.

Lane-Sharing Etiquette

Swimming Pool Lane-Sharing Etiquette

When more than one person is using a lane, circle swimming applies, in that swimmers travel counterclockwise, staying to the right of the black line at the bottom.

Before entering an occupied lane, you want to make eye contact with the swimmer and tap the wall at the end to signal you’re joining.

You have to wait at the lane end until they notice you; by doing so, you won’t interrupt someone mid-lap.

During slower periods with two swimmers per lane, side-by-side swimming works, where each person takes half the lane rather than circling.

Three or more swimmers always require circle swimming, so if your pace differs from the others in a lane, you want to check whether a nearby lane is running at a more compatible speed before entering a crowded fast lane.

What’s Available at the Pool Deck

kickboards for leg-focused drills

In many, many LA Fitness pools, you’ll find free of cost kickboards for leg-focused drills, pull buoys for upper-body isolation, and water aerobics dumbbells that are also used in Aqua Fitness classes and are available to lap swimmers during open swim times.

Besides this, you can also bring your own gear if you prefer your own equipment.

Towels are not provided at standard club pools, so you have to bring your own, but if you’re a Signature Club member, you’ll find a towel, as it’s a premium service.

If you want to know more about what Signature Clubs include overall, see this LA Fitness Amenities.

Are You Allowed to Take Your Shirt Off at LA Fitness?

Men are permitted to swim shirtless in the pool area, which is standard practice at commercial gyms.

But on the gym floor, LA Fitness requires a shirt at all times for hygiene reasons; they treat the pool as a separate area where standard swimwear rules apply.

For women, they should wear athletic swimwear in the pool; the same dress policy that applies to the gym floor (no street clothes, no cotton) applies to what you wear coming to and from the pool area.

FAQs about LA Fitness Pool Hours

How long are LA Fitness pools?

25 yards, or 75 feet, at the large majority of locations; a small number of clubs, older or differently configured, may have different lengths from this standard.

If you’re training to a precise distance, you should call the club or bring a tape measure, since staff answers on pool length aren’t always reliable.

What time does the LA Fitness pool close?

It’s usually 30 to 60 minutes earlier than the main club closes, and on weekdays at clubs open until 11 PM, expect pool closing around 10:00 to 10:30 PM.

On weekends and holidays, the gap can be an hour or more, so you can consider calling for more current pool hours.

Can I use the pool with a free trial pass?

Yes, the free 3-day trial pass includes pool access at the selected club, subject to pool hours and lane availability.

Day passes also include pool access for that visit without an additional charge on top of the day pass fee.

If you want more details on how the free trial works, you’d like to check out my guide on LA Fitness Free Trial.

Is LA Fitness open 24 hours?

No, they’re not open 24 hours. LA Fitness closes each night between 10 PM and 11 PM on weekdays and earlier on weekends.

If you need a gym accessible around the clock, 24 Hour Fitness operates locations with true extended hours.

You can learn more about that in my LA Fitness Hours; there, I shared the full schedule breakdown, including holiday hours.

Does the pool require a separate fee to use?

No, pool access is included in all standard LA Fitness memberships at clubs that have a pool, and Aqua Fit classes are also included at no extra charge.

The only pool-adjacent services that cost extra are third-party swim lessons like British Swim School, which is a separate enrollment.
