LA Fitness Family Membership Cost

Joining LA Fitness as a family is more affordable than each member signing up separately, but the final cost depends on your club, the number of people who are joining the gym, and a few other things.

Here’s how the family membership works, and what you pay per-person, and much more.

How LA Fitness Family Membership Works

Family member in gym

LA Fitness have no a separate “family plan membership” as a bundled, but they allow the primary member to add up to three family members to their account.

Each at a reduced add-on rate compared to what those people would pay if they each signed up independently.

Every person on the account will get their own full gym access with their own barcode, so they’re not sharing a membership.

Besides this, the primary member’s plan determines the access tier for everyone.

If the primary member has single club access, the whole family will share that same access restriction.

But if the primary is on a nationwide plan, all members will be added to the same nationwide access, so if you’re not sure, you can see my LA Fitness Plan guide; it’ll help you choose a suitable plan for your family, and you’ll know all the benefits of every plan.

How Much Does an LA Fitness Family Membership Cost?

As I said earlier, the LA Fitness hasn’t publish a standard national family price, so the cost will vary by location, but here’s what you have pay:

Primary Member Cost

FeeAmount
Monthly dues$29.99 to $49.99 depending on the plan and location
Annual fee$59 per year, billed 14 days after joining
Initiation fee$0 to $99, frequently waived during promotions

Per Added Family Member

FeeTypical Amount
Monthly add-on rate$25 to $30 per month
Annual fee$59 per person, per year
Initiation feeOften waived for add-ons during promotions

The annual fee will be apply on every family member, if two adults and two teenagers, total four, so the annual fees will be added around $236 per year on top of monthly dues.

What a Family of Three Looks Like in Year One

Here is a cost breakdown for two people having a nationwide plan, and one of them is an add-on member, all with initiation waived, to show how the year-one total builds.

FeePrimaryAdd-onTotal
Monthly x 12$599.88$359.88$959.76
Annual fee$59$59$118
Initiation (if waived)$0$0$0
First year$1,077

Per person that’s about $359 per year, or around $30 per month each; if two people were signing up separately at the same Nationwide rate with no initiation fee, they would pay around $659 in year one.

Who Can Be Added to a Family Membership

Family members who live at the same address are eligible to be added.

For example, spouses, partners, adult children still living at home, and parents sharing a household, though some clubs extend this to siblings in shared households.

Age Rules for Family Add-Ons

Children under 13 cannot be added as gym members; they’re not eligible for a standard membership.

But for younger kids, La Fitness has Kids Klub, the childcare service, which is a separate paid add-on that lets children ages 3 months to 12 years stay supervised while parents work out.

Children 13 and older can be added to a family membership, but with conditions that vary by age:

  • Ages 13 to 14: A parent must be present in the facility during every visit; the child cannot be dropped off and left.
  • Ages 15 to 17: Written parental consent on the membership agreement is required, but the teen no longer needs a parent physically present; they can work out independently.
  • Ages 18 and up: Treated as adult members with full standard access.

Some age-specific restrictions on amenities also apply at this level.

Saunas, steam rooms, and whirlpools are restricted to members 18 and older, though some clubs allow 16 and older, so you’ve to confirm all that in your gym.

Kids Klub: Childcare While You Work Out

Kids Klub in the gym

For parents with children under 13 who can’t use the gym floor, Kids Klub is LA Fitness’s supervised childcare area.

It covers ages 3 months through around 12 years depending on the club; staff members can alert you through the LA Fitness app if they need to reach you, and it costs extra on top of any membership: $10 to $15 per child per month, or $5 per drop-in visit.

Kids can stay a maximum of two hours per visit, and if childcare is the reason you’re considering LA Fitness over another gym, call the specific location before joining.

Because, all LA Fitness club doesn’t have Kids Klub.

Ask Before You Sign Up

Family memberships at LA Fitness have enough location-by-location variation; that’s why it’s important to get the answers to some questions:

What is the exact monthly add-on rate for each family member?

It’s normally in the $25 to $30 range, but it’s not universal; some locations charge more.

Does the annual fee apply separately to each person we’re adding? It does, almost in every LA gym, but I recommend you confirm so you’re not surprised by it.

Is the initiation fee being waived right now and for add-ons too? During promotions, this is common, but after that, add-ons may still carry a reduced initiation fee.

Does our plan give everyone the same access tier? Single Club, Multi Club, and Nationwide each affect where your family can go. If family members travel or want to use different locations in your city, the plan tier matters for everyone.

Does this location have Kids Klub, and what are the hours? If you have young children and need childcare, confirm availability.

However, if you want to know about each plan, see the LA Fitness Plans guide, and for strategies to reduce the initiation fee and overall first-year cost, see my LA Fitness Membership Deals and Discounts guide.

Is the Family Membership Worth It?

When you add family members through the account, so it reduce the per-person cost compared to separate individual memberships, and the savings grow from year two onward when you’ve to pay the initiation fee.

It’s not worth, when if some of your family members are Inconsistent or teenagers with access restrictions, of Kids Klub availability doesn’t match your schedule, or when the annual fee per person pushes the total higher than a competing gym’s family rate.

If everyone in your household plans to use the gym regularly, then yes, you can go with LA Fitness

FAQs

How much is a family membership at LA Fitness?

The primary member pays the standard plan rate ($29.99 to $49.99 per month), and each family member added pays a reduced add-on rate of around $25 to $30 per month.

Every person on the account also pays a separate annual fee of $59.

If you’re a family of three and you get a Nationwide plan with a waived initiation fee, you will pay around $1,000 to $1,100.

Can I add my kids to my LA Fitness membership?

Yes, children 13 and older can be added; kids 13 to 14 require a parent present during every visit.

Teens 15 to 17 need written parental consent on the agreement but can work out independently.

Children under 13 cannot be added as gym floor members, and they’ll need to use Kids Klub childcare instead, which is a separate paid service, and it’s not included in any membership.

Does each family member get their own access, or do they share mine?

Every person added gets their own barcode and their own independent gym access.

They are not sharing your membership; you just shared only the account structure and the discounted add-on.

Can family members use any LA Fitness location or just mine?

It depends on the plan the primary member holds.

If the primary member’s plan is Single Club, everyone on the account is restricted to that same one location.

And if the primary holds a nationwide plan, everyone added gets the same nationwide access, so the base plan determines access for the whole household.

What happens to a family member’s membership if I cancel mine?

Each person on the account is enrolled independently; if the primary member cancels, the add-on members’ memberships are affected since their enrollment is tied to the primary account.

So, you can contact your home club before canceling to understand what happens to each person’s access and billing; see my Cancel LA Fitness Membership guide.

Can I add a family member who lives at a different address?

Officially, the family add-on program is for household members sharing the same address.

But some clubs are flexible, so you can confirm about that, but don’t expect too much; they’ll hardly do it.
