LA Fitness senior discount for seniors price

As of September 2026, there’s no special senior discount rate at LA Fitness. But if you’ve got health insurance, you may get a free membership.

As a senior with qualifying Medicare Advantage plans, you can use programs like SilverSneakers, Renew Active, or Silver&Fit.

But if you can’t qualify, there’s still a way to pay less than the standard rate and get discounted membership.

Does LA Fitness Have a Senior Discount?

LA Fitness senior discount_ no official senior discount, but qualifying Medicare fitness benefits may provide $0 access

LA Fitness doesn’t have a direct senior discount rate or any age-based pricing. However, seniors can access LA Fitness for free or at a reduced cost through these programs:

  • SilverSneakers: included with many Medicare Advantage plans, covers full gym access at no cost
  • Renew Active: UnitedHealthcare’s exclusive fitness benefit for Medicare Advantage members
  • Silver&Fit: available through select Medicare Advantage and Supplement plans

You’ve to pay nothing with these programs.

Besides this, LA Fitness also doesn’t offer an AARP discount, so you can’t flash an AARP card at the front desk, that won’t work with LA Fitness.

Is LA Fitness Free for Seniors?

Is LA Fitness free for seniors_ Medicare Advantage plans with qualifying fitness benefits may provide $0 access, while Original Medicare Parts A and B does not include the benefit

For seniors, yes, because LA Fitness participates in Medicare-linked fitness programs that cover your membership at zero cost, you won’t even have to pay monthly, annual, or initiation fees.

But whether you qualify or not depends on your health insurance plan.

Original Medicare (Parts A and B) doesn’t include this benefit.

You need a Medicare Advantage plan, and it needs to specifically include a fitness benefit like SilverSneakers.

If yours does, you’ll have to show your member ID at the front desk, and that’s it, but if it doesn’t, you will pay the standard adult rate just like any other member.

The Three Programs LA Fitness Accepts (Detailed)

LA Fitness senior fitness programs_ SilverSneakers, Renew Active, and Silver&Fit can provide covered gym access through eligible Medicare plans

SilverSneakers

SilverSneakers is included with many Medicare Advantage plans, and it’s the most available senior fitness benefit program in the United States, which covers over 17,000 gym locations, including LA Fitness.

So if you have the SilverSneakers ID, it’ll work at any participating LA Fitness nationwide, not just one home club.

To check eligibility, you’ve to visit silversneakers.com or you can call 1-888-423-4632.

They’ll also ask you to provide your Medicare plan information, if you’re qualified they’ll give you a member ID to present at your local club.

Note: Fewer Medicare Advantage plans include SilverSneakers than in previous years as insurers look to cut costs.

According to KFF data, 93% of Medicare Advantage plans offered a fitness benefit in 2026, down from 95% in 2025.

If your plan included SilverSneakers in 2025, check your Annual Notice of Change letter each September to confirm it’s still covered.

If it was dropped, you can switch to a plan that includes it during the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 to December 7 each year.

Renew Active

Renew Active is UnitedHealthcare’s exclusive fitness benefit for its Medicare Advantage members.

It covers gym access at participating LA Fitness locations and includes brain health tools through the AARP Staying Sharp program; for more, you’ve to check your UnitedHealthcare plan documents and confirm the benefit is included.

Silver&Fit

Silver&Fit is run by American Specialty Health, and it’s available through a smaller set of Medicare Advantage and some Medicare Supplement plans.

It works the same way as the others: if your plan includes it, your gym access is covered.

So, confirm with your nearest LA Fitness location that it participates in Silver&Fit before going there, since participation can vary more than it does with SilverSneakers.

What SilverSneakers Covers at LA Fitness

LA Fitness amenities for seniors through SilverSneakers, including cardio and strength equipment, fitness classes, an indoor pool, locker rooms, and showers

Firstly they’ve got the standard gym equipment and other classes like group fitness classes, and general amenities like the pool, courts, and locker rooms, etc. they’re all included under SilverSneakers access.

Besides this, you can find SilverSneakers group fitness classes, which are especially designed for older adults and scheduled at less crowded LA Fitness hours than general classes, this include:

  • SilverSneakers Classic (strength training with hand weights and resistance bands)
  • SilverSneakers Circuit (alternating cardio and strength stations)
  • SilverSneakers Yoga
  • SilverSneakers Splash (water aerobics)
  • SilverSneakers Stability, which focuses on balance and fall prevention

Btw, you want to check the class availability, as it also depends on the club, so make sure to check the schedule at your location before going.

What SilverSneakers does not cover at LA Fitness:

  • Specialty studio programs like Pilates by LA Fitness
  • The Glute Room cost extra for everyone, including SilverSneakers members.

Besides this, guest privileges are also not included; if you bring someone with you, they’ll have to pay the standard guest fee.

If you want to know more what’s included across all LA Fitness locations, you see my LA Fitness Amenities guide.

What Seniors Pay Without Insurance Coverage

LA Fitness senior membership cost without insurance coverage, including $29.99–$49.99 monthly dues, $59 annual fee, and $0–$99 initiation fee

If none of the above mentioned programs apply to your plan, you will pay the standard adult membership rate.

Though in some gyms, you can negotiate a reduced initiation fee, and they also offer a lower rate during January, summer, etc.

FeeAmount
Monthly dues$29.99 to $49.99 depending on location and access level
Annual fee$59, billed roughly 14 days after joining
Initiation fee$0 to $99, often waived during promotions

What About the $14.99 Price and Costco Deals?

There was a $14.99 price but it’s not available anymore, it was just limited-time campaign to bring more members.

Plus, it’s not a senior rate and not always available, but if you see it advertised, it will apply to standard adult memberships and as seniors, you can take advantage of it during those windows.

Costco LA Fitness Membership

Actually this is an internet rumor that Costco offers LA Fitness deals, but in reality Costco never had a deal with LA Fitness. Costco has partnership with 24 Hour Fitness but not with LA Fitness.

So now if you really want to take that Costco advantage, you can go for 24 Hour Fitness. But if you want LA Fitness at ad affordable price, see this LA Fitness Membership Deals and Discounts; I’ve discussed what’s negotiable and when.

If aquatic workouts are a priority for you, confirm that with your nearest location, and you can check LA Fitness pool hours guide as well.

Which Gym Is Best for Seniors?

LA Fitness

If you have SilverSneakers coverage, LA Fitness is a good choice because they have pools, low-impact equipment, and senior-specific classes. All these things make it a fit for older adults.

YMCA

Besides this, the YMCA is also an all-around choice for seniors who don’t have Medicare fitness benefits.

As most of their clubs offer a 20-plus percent discount off standard adult rates, plus some accept SilverSneakers too.

I also like their community-center environment, which is especially designed for older adults.

If we talk about the mostly cost, so senior YMCA membership cost around $43 per month while normally adult rates are around $56.

Planet Fitness

If you want an affordable gym as a senior, Planet Fitness would be the right choice, it costs $10 to $25 per month, and many locations even accept SilverSneakers.

However, you won’t get pools, limited free weights, and a lighter class schedule at Planet Fitness, as you’ll get at YMCA.

So, if you want cardio equipment and a low-pressure environment, it works well.

My Recommendation: If you qualify for SilverSneakers, then use the SilverSneakers location finder to see which gyms near you participate (your first choice should be YMCA and LA Fitness, add you’ll find more amenities there).

After that, you can visit the gym during your normal workout hours to see if it suits you. If you like it, then join it.

How to Pay Less If You Don’t Qualify for Free Access

Infographic showing three ways to pay less for an LA Fitness membership without free Medicare access_ ask about current deals, negotiate the initiation fee, and look for promotions

Without a Medicare program, here’s what will help you get discounted Membership:

Negotiate Initial Fee

You must negotiate the initial fee at LA Fitness, because they easily do it, and I’ve talked to many members who did that.

For that, you’ve to visit the club in person rather than signing up online, because membership advisors have more flexibility face-to-face.

And you don’t need to wait for New Year or summer, I recommend you visit the club at the end of the month.

When you sit down with the advisor, ask directly: “Is the initiation fee waived right now, and is there any senior-specific pricing in this gym?”

Maybe they do it because clubs also don’t advertise everything. However, if they say no, ask when the next promotion is coming. At this point, they’ll tell you or want to waive the initial fee, as they won’t like to lose their member; they’d also have that fear in mind, what if you join another gym?.

Take Friends and Family’s Advantage

If you have a friend or family member already at LA Fitness, you should ask about the referral or friends-and-family promotion.

You can also see how the LA Fitness family membership works if you’re thinking of joining together, because if you add someone as a family member, it’s cheaper than two separate memberships.

These reduce both the initiation fee and the first month’s dues for new members.

FAQs

Is LA Fitness free for seniors?

It’s not free but it can be free for seniors with Medicare Advantage plans that include SilverSneakers, Renew Active, or Silver&Fit.

Original Medicare doesn’t include this benefit, if your plan covers it, you won’t pay any monthly dues, annual fee or the initiation fee.

What age qualifies for a senior discount at LA Fitness?

LA Fitness doesn’t have a formal age-based senior discount.

But the Medicare wellness programs that make access free are available to adults 65 and older.

Though some adults under 65 can also recover, especially with Medicare and due to a disability.

Can I use SilverSneakers at any LA Fitness location?

Yes, as long as that specific gym participates in SilverSneakers.

Your benefit isn’t locked to one home club, so you can use it at any participating LA Fitness across the United States.

However, some clubs can change their participation status, so if you’re traveling, you’ve to confirm the location in advance using the SilverSneakers app or website. Are they part of SilverSneakers or not?

Does SilverSneakers include guest access at LA Fitness?

No, SilverSneakers covers your own access only; if guests visit, they’ll pay the standard guest fee, which can cost $15 to $25 depending on the location.

What if my plan dropped SilverSneakers for 2026?

Check your Annual Notice of Change letter, which arrives each September, to see whether your fitness benefit was removed or changed.

If it was dropped, you can enroll in a plan that includes SilverSneakers or a comparable benefit during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7.

Some seniors who lost SilverSneakers found their insurer replaced it with a different fitness benefit, so you want to check your current plan documents carefully.

Is there a dedicated senior program at LA Fitness beyond SilverSneakers?

No, they don’t have a separate branded senior membership program besides the Medicare fitness benefits.

Seniors with no Medicare programs, membership is same for as for other, you can access everything, but you’ll be paying for that.

Does LA Fitness offer classes for seniors?

Yes, at clubs that participate in SilverSneakers, LA Fitness runs senior-specific group fitness classes designed for senior citizens.

These include SilverSneakers Classic for strength training, SilverSneakers Circuit for combined cardio and strength, SilverSneakers Yoga, SilverSneakers Splash for water aerobics, and SilverSneakers Stability which focuses on balance and fall prevention.

These classes are scheduled at less crowded times than general classes.

Besides the SilverSneakers program, standard group fitness classes are available to all members including seniors under any plan.

Does LA Fitness offer an AARP discount?

No, LA Fitness doesn’t offer an AARP membership rate or any discount tied to AARP membership.

The most common way seniors access LA Fitness at a reduced cost or for free is through Medicare Advantage fitness programs like SilverSneakers, Renew Active, or Silver&Fit, which are tied to your health insurance plan rather than to AARP.

How much is a 1-day pass for LA Fitness?

LA Fitness guest and day passes cost $15 to $25, and in some cases the primary member needs to be present with you.

If you’re considering LA Fitness as a senior and want to try it before committing to a membership, ask the gym staff about a complimentary pass, since some clubs offer a free trial visit.

Besides this, if you qualify for SilverSneakers, you can use the gym at no cost without a day pass at all.

How much is a monthly membership at LA Fitness for seniors without insurance?

Without Medicare fitness program coverage, seniors pay the standard adult rate, which is $29.99 to $49.99 per month depending on the plan and location, plus a $59 annual fee.

Although LA Fitness hasn’t published a separate senior monthly rate.

So the best way to reduce that number without insurance coverage is to time your signup during a promotion when the initiation fee is waived, or you can also ask directly at the club.
