LA Fitness hasn’t published any senior discount rate, so you can’t find one on their website.
But depending on your health insurance, you may not need one.
As a senior with qualifying Medicare Advantage plans, you can use LA Fitness completely free; programs like SilverSneakers, Renew Active, or Silver&Fit can help you get a free LA Membership.
And if you can’t qualify, there’s still a way to pay less than the standard rate, and that’s what I’ll discuss.
Is LA Fitness Free for Seniors?

For many seniors, yes, because LA Fitness participates in Medicare-linked fitness programs that cover your membership at zero cost, with no monthly, annual, or initiation fee.
But whether you qualify or not depends on your health insurance plan.
Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not include this benefit.
You need a Medicare Advantage plan, and it needs to specifically include a fitness benefit like SilverSneakers.
If yours does, you’ll have to show your member ID at the front desk, and that’s it, but if it doesn’t, you will pay the standard adult rate just like any other member.
Before assuming that you’re not qualified, check, because many seniors who pay monthly dues would have had free access all along if they’d looked into it.
The Three Programs LA Fitness Accepts

SilverSneakers
SilverSneakers is included with many Medicare Advantage plans and is the most widely available senior fitness benefit in the United States. It covers over 17,000 gym locations, including LA Fitness.
Your SilverSneakers ID works at any participating LA Fitness nationwide, not just one home club.
To check eligibility, go to silversneakers.com or call 1-888-423-4632. You will need your Medicare plan information. If you qualify, you get a member ID to present at your local club.
Note: Fewer Medicare Advantage plans include SilverSneakers than in previous years as insurers look to cut costs.
According to KFF data, 93% of Medicare Advantage plans offered a fitness benefit in 2026, down from 95% in 2025.
If your plan included SilverSneakers in 2025, check your Annual Notice of Change letter each September to confirm it’s still covered.
If it was dropped, you can switch to a plan that includes it during the Annual Enrollment Period, which runs October 15 to December 7 each year.
Renew Active
Renew Active is UnitedHealthcare’s exclusive fitness benefit for its Medicare Advantage members.
If you have a UnitedHealthcare plan, you will have Renew Active instead of SilverSneakers, not both.
It covers gym access at participating LA Fitness locations and includes brain health tools through the AARP Staying Sharp program; for more, you’ve to check your UnitedHealthcare plan documents to confirm the benefit is included.
Silver&Fit
Silver&Fit is run by American Specialty Health, and it’s available through a smaller set of Medicare Advantage and some Medicare Supplement plans.
It works the same way as the others: if your plan includes it, your gym access is covered.
So, confirm with your specific LA Fitness location that it participates in Silver&Fit before going there, since participation can vary more than it does with SilverSneakers.
What SilverSneakers Covers at LA Fitness

Standard gym equipment, group fitness classes, and general amenities like the pool, courts, and locker rooms are all included under SilverSneakers access.
LA Fitness also runs SilverSneakers-specific group fitness classes at many locations, designed for older adults and scheduled at less crowded times than general classes. These include:
- SilverSneakers Classic (strength training with hand weights and resistance bands)
- SilverSneakers Circuit (alternating cardio and strength stations)
- SilverSneakers Yoga
- SilverSneakers Splash (water aerobics)
- SilverSneakers Stability, which focuses on balance and fall prevention.
Class availability also depends on the club, so check the schedule at your location before going.
What SilverSneakers does not cover at LA Fitness: specialty studio programs like Pilates by LA Fitness and The Glute Room cost extra for everyone, including SilverSneakers members.
Besides this, guest privileges are also not included; if you bring someone with you, they’ll have to pay the standard guest fee.
For more on what’s included across all LA Fitness locations, see my LA Fitness Amenities guide.
What Seniors Pay Without Insurance Coverage
If none of the programs above apply to your plan, you will pay the standard adult membership rate.
LA Fitness doesn’t have a published age-based senior discount, buy you also ask that on in gym, to staff members.
Some clubs will negotiate a reduced initiation fee, or they can offer a lower rate during slower periods, though there’s no guarantee.
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Monthly dues | $29.99 to $49.99 depending on location and access level |
| Annual fee | $59, billed roughly 14 days after joining |
| Initiation fee | $0 to $99, often waived during promotions |
To understand how to reduce these costs, see my LA Fitness Membership Deals and Discounts guide; I’ve discussed what’s negotiable and when.
For seniors specifically, the initiation fee is the biggest variable, and it’s the most waived as well.
If aquatic workouts is in your priority, confirm that with your nearest location. Also see my LA Fitness Pool Hours guide.
Which Gym Is Best for Seniors?

LA Fitness is a solid option for seniors, especially if you have SilverSneakers coverage, because they have pools, low-impact equipment, and senior-specific classes, and all these things make it a fit for older adults.
Besides this, the YMCA is also considered the strongest all-around choice for seniors who don’t have Medicare fitness benefits.
Most branches offer a 20-plus percent discount off standard adult rates, many accept SilverSneakers, and the community-center environment with programs specifically designed for older adults is something LA Fitness doesn’t replicate.
Average senior YMCA membership costs around $43 per month versus standard adult rates around $56.
Planet Fitness is the most affordable option at $10 to $25 per month, and many locations accept SilverSneakers.
But Planet Fitness has no pools, limited free weights, and a lighter class schedule compared to LA Fitness or the YMCA.
For seniors who mainly want cardio equipment and a low-pressure environment, it works well.
But if you’re a senior and already qualify for SilverSneakers, so just use the SilverSneakers location finder to see which gyms near you participate, then visit that during your normal workout hours to see if it suits you.

What age qualifies for a senior discount at LA Fitness?

But the Medicare wellness programs that make access free are available to adults 65 and older.
Though some adults under 65 can also recover, especially with Medicare and due to a disability.

Yes, as long as that specific location participates in SilverSneakers.
Your benefit isn’t locked to one home club, so you can use it at any participating LA Fitness across the United States.

Does SilverSneakers include guest access at LA Fitness?
No, SilverSneakers covers your own access only; guests pay the standard guest fee, which can cost $15 to $25 depending on the location.
What if my plan dropped SilverSneakers for 2026?
Check your Annual Notice of Change letter, which arrives each September, to see whether your fitness benefit was removed or changed.
If it was dropped, you can enroll in a plan that includes SilverSneakers or a comparable benefit during the Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 through December 7.
Some seniors who lost SilverSneakers found their insurer replaced it with a different fitness benefit, so you want to check your current plan documents carefully.
Is there a dedicated senior program at LA Fitness beyond SilverSneakers?
LA Fitness doesn’t have a separate branded senior membership program outside the Medicare fitness benefits.
What seniors get beyond those programs is the same full access as any other member, plus SilverSneakers-specific classes at locations that offer them.
The senior-friendly aspects of LA Fitness come from the facilities, not a separate program structure.
